Become A Councillor

Have you thought of becoming a local councillor and are you passionate about the community you live in?

The next local elections take place on 1st May 2025 and so now is the time to find out more and consider if you would like to be nominated.

Chesham Town Councillors

Chesham Town Council is comprised of 19 councillors who are elected for a period of 4 years (last elected May 2021). Town councillors are unpaid and do not receive any attendance allowance (with the exception of the Town Mayor) for their duties, which they undertake purely on a voluntary basis. This includes representing the Council at a number of charitable/ outside bodies. Councillors are supported by officers based at the Town Hall.

Councillors and officers attend committees that cover various aspects of the councils work and governance and which meet regularly to discuss and decide on local issues.

A Councillors Role

Councillors have a vital role to play in the community and can make a big difference to the quality of life of residents in Chesham.

They are passionate about their community, are able to listen to resident views and voice their concerns to help deliver projects residents have asked for.

Councillors are well informed and understand local issues.

Chesham needs councillors from all backgrounds and experiences who reflect the community.

No previous experience or special qualifications are required to be a councillor. Just your life experience, everyday skills, passion and commitment to the people of Chesham.
