New Year, New Look for Canon's Wood

Canons Wood

Impress the Chess volunteers will be working in Canons Wood on Wednesday 16th and Monday 21st January. Thanks to grants from Tesco Bags of Help and Chesham Connect, this popular walking spot will benefit from the installation of Dog Steps at two points along the River Chess. The river bank has been worn away by many sets of paws clambering in and out of the river; by putting in dog steps, the river bank will be protected and dogs can still access the river for a dip.

Protecting the river bank is important to reduce the amount of soil that gets deposited on to the river bed, and to prevent the riverside path from getting too narrow. Tree work has already been carried out in the area to improve light levels, which will benefit both the river and walkers. The finishing touch will be the installation of two new benches to replace the old, damaged benches on site. Overall, this will make the area much better for walkers and their dogs, as well as wildlife.

If you are interested in attending either of the working parties, please contact Kathryn on policy@chesham.gov.uk or 01494 583798 for more information.
