Know A Community Hero or Brilliant Business?

We are asking for your help to discover Chesham’s community heroes and the brilliant businesses in Chesham that help make a name for the town. The 2018 Mayoral Awards are now open for nominations to celebrate local volunteering and inspirational businesses.

Town Mayor, Cllr Emily Culverhouse, said, "In recent years the Mayoral awards have been held every two years but in recognition of the overwhelming number of amazing volunteers, that we're so lucky to have in Chesham, we felt that there were more than enough to reward their work annually.  Please get behind these awards to nominate someone you believe worthy of special praise as well as that business that you feel has gone the extra mile.”

The People’s Award is open to people of any age who have done something good for Chesham; that could be all sorts of things, such as volunteering for a charity, helping an elderly neighbour, or getting young people involved in sport. The winner of the award will receive £150 towards the charity or project of their choice. Last year’s winner was Paul Jennings who was recognised for his tireless volunteering for Chesham’s environment, especially the River Chess.

The Business Award is open to businesses and retail outlets that contribute to charitable work; provide exceptional customer service; or excel in their field - helping to put Chesham on the map. The Business Award is sponsored by the Chiltern Chamber and the winning business will receive a specially engraved trophy. The 2017 Business Awards were a tie between KCS Ltd, for the business’ key role in supporting Christmas in Chesham, and Domesco for its many years of excellent service on the High Street.

This year’s prizes will be awarded at the Annual Town Meeting on the 10th May, which is open to the public and is always a very enjoyable celebration of Chesham’s finest.

The nomination process is quick and simple, requiring you to fill in one, short form. You can pick one up from the Town Hall, or download one from here. The deadline is 9th March. Cllr Culverhouse said, “Please consider spending a couple of minutes to make a nomination so that the town can say thank-you to the special people who really make a difference in Chesham.”
