Drought Consultation

Whilst we've had a lot of rain over the last few weeks, our area is in drought following very dry periods in winter 2018 and this summer. The groundwater levels in the chalk aquifer that feed the River Chess and supply our drinking water are still below normal despite the recent rain. Affinity Water, who supply Chesham's drinking water, say that it may be necessary to introduce Temporary Use Bans (commonly known as hosepipe bans) in 2020 to conserve water. They are running a short consultation to find out what people think: https://www.affinitywater.co.uk/drought

The consultation runs until the 3rd January 2020.

The Town Council has responded to say that this action is too late; the River Chess in the town centre has been dry all year and action should have been taken earlier to help protect our precious chalk stream environment.
